Open Source Intelligence through the Internet and Social Media
Officers who attend this class will learn how to gather intelligence through open-source data available throughout the Internet and social media and how to use it as an investigative tool. This course will instruct how to gather evidence displayed or hidden in social media and other sites as well as investigating and preempting violence. Methods how to protect the officer’s real identity on social media, establish a safe and thorough undercover persona through social media, conduct undercover investigations through the Internet and social media, and use these resources as a tool and an enhancement for a variety of law enforcement and investigative operations. Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop, notebook computer or tablet to this class but smart phones should be sufficient.
Instructor: Samuel Del Rosario is one of the nation’s leading experts on Internet investigations and using social media during a variety of investigations and intelligence gathering. He is the author of an Internet Investigations book. He has over 15 years of law enforcement experience, and currently serves as a Police Officer with the City of Bethlehem Police Department and the Polygraph examiner for that agency. He is the training director for the Northeast Forensic Training Center is board certified by the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS). Samuel currently holds a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice, with an emphasis in investigative forensics, from De Sales University. He is a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. He has assisted numerous investigators from a variety of agencies across the US using his expertise in Internet and social media investigations.
